BurstNET® Global Network Information

Network Design

BurstNET® has data centers and network points-of-presence (POPs) in the United States and Europe, and is constantly expanding our reach. Our global locations are connected by an advanced worldwide network that delivers unparalleled performance and control. The BurstNET® network utilizes routing and switching products from Cisco Systems® at all layers of the network. The network is fully redundant, all the way from the gateway border routers down to the client distribution level.

Redundant 10-Gigabit Ethernet circuits are used across the entire core of the network, to reduce the risks of internal congestion due to DDoS attacks, and to maintain optimal flexibility. Our network is fully meshed, using BGP and OSPF, and redundant with a wide selection of backbone providers, as well as hundreds of direct peering relationships globally. IPv6 connectivity has also been available on the BurstNET® network for years now. The network is a fully switched network, configured with each individual client service on its own VLAN, to prevent the packet sniffing of connections/traffic. The BurstNET® network has been designed to accommodate clients demanding the highest quality network performance. There is a central focus on redundancy, allowing our network to rapidly self-heal failures without interruptions to connectivity.

We have enabled dozens of network connections across our locations, that are provided by leading global Tier 1 network carriers, and include multiple public peering links to hundreds of additional networks. Redundant 10-Gigabit Ethernet circuits are used across the entire upstream connectivity for the network. The network is connected at various global points via 10-Gigabit Ethernet Wavelength handoff(s) on redundant/dual-path DWDM fiber-optic transport connections to XO® Communications, Zayo® Bandwidth, Highwinds®, Hibernia Atantic®, and PCCW®. BurstNET® is currently accessible at public peering exchanges, including; NYIIX, Any2, LINX, NL-IX, & Equinix® Exchange.

At the BurstNET® Northeasten Pennsylvania headquarters, we are currently installing our own DWDM fiber optic network (1G, 10G, 40G, & 100G multi-circuit capable), running over leased dark fiber, directly connected to major New York City and New Jersey carrier hotels, followed later in 2013 by the same to Philadelphia PA. This will enable BurstNET® to compete directly with major US colocation facilities, offering similar bandwidth options/pricing to major metros, all whilst operating in the less expensive Scranton PA region...and passing those savings on to our clientele. BurstNET® clientele will have access to all the major NYC carriers for example, including peering exchanges like NYIIX, all over BurstNET's® own transport system at nil to minimal cost.

Network Points of Presence (POPs)

The BurstNET® network currently touches the following global Internet hub cities:

  • ACTIVE

  • PENDING
  • Scranton, PA     Philadelphia, PA     New York City, NY
  • Newark, NJ     Seattle, WA     Atlanta, GA     Denver, CO
  • Chicago, IL     Los Angeles, CA     Miami, FL     Dallas, TX
  • Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • London, UK     Manchester, UK
  • Toronto, Canada

Network Monitoring

The BurstNET® Network Operations Center (NOC) provides a 24/7/365 monitoring, and is capable of responding within minutes to server failures, attacks or Internet backbone problems. As a result, the adverse effects of distributed denial of service (DDoS) and other attacks are minimized. The Network Operations Center uses industry-standard SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) and provides round-the-clock monitoring of all hardware, including routers, switches, UPS systems, and servers. The Network Operations Center also monitors power, environmental factors (such as temperature and humidity), generator status, and network connectivity. All critical services/ports can be monitored, including FTP, HTTP, SMTP, HTTPS, SSH, and POP3. We provide network monitoring of the Local Area Network, Internet connectivity (all routers, switches, and wiring), and the Internet backbone via MRTG. Our close and constant communication with our upstream backbone providers ensures that our customers have constant access to high-performance Internet connections. Failure on any monitoring service results in audible alarms, LAN messages, and alerting our staff paging system. BurstNET® offers remote cold boot hardware for Dedicated Server and Co-location clients, with private, password protected, web based access. Remote KVM access is also an available option.
